"Depression, it must be said and remembered, is a condition that may or may not be caused or accompanied by the passion of despondency. They are two different things."

As someone who is extremely familiar with the former but not so much with the latter, I sometimes struggle to see the difference.

How would you arrive at the differential diagnosis of depression vs despondency?
